Following a report published by
the American organization Worldwatch Institute it appears that the drink
which knows the strongest growth on the world market does not save the
environment. Cold shower for mineral water! Because this water is sometimes
less controlled than that of the tap. The worst to come is that it is far
from being ecologically correct. The intensive exploitation of the sources
has a strong environmental impact indeed since the rivers and the underground
tablecloths do not give anymore. To the energy expenditure due to pumping, to
the setting out of bottle, packing, transport, storage and the delivery, then
the million tons of plastic, derived from oil are added. Moreover if the
mineral water consumption does not cease increasing, it does not prevent a
billion people on the earth from being private of access to
drinking water. Thus, water bottle seems to be a luxury, almost indecent.
Between 1997 and 2005, the world market has doubled, the sales have triplet
in India and doubled in China. An average American consumes 28,6 litters of
water per annum whereas the price is absolutely exorbitant. Water out of
bottle is indeed 240 to 10.000 times more expensive than that of the tap. In
the industrialized countries, one cubic meter returns thus between 500 and
1.000 dollars, whereas it costs 50 hundreds in California for a water of the
tap of very good quality |
